Why School Ratings Matter & Interview with Jen Johnson of Ideal Homes

Welcome:
Welcome to the Oklahoma Living and Real Estate Show. I’m your host, Tim Dumas with eXp Realty here in Oklahoma.  On today’s show we will talk about why you should be aware of the local school’s ratings in the area you want to buy and how to find that out. I’m also going to share part of an interview I had with Jen Johnson from Ideal Homes. I’m also going to share some things you might want to do this weekend.  It’s going to be a good show and it’s all coming up.

Real Estate:
Should you be concerned about the school rating in an area you are considering buying a home in, even if you do not have children? The answer is yes and it all has to do with property values. Parents are usually willing to pay more to have their kids in a good school district. So even if you personally do not have kids, being located in a good school district will help your home go up in value, giving you more equity in your home quicker and a better selling price when you decide to sell.

So here’s the question. How do you find out the rating of a school or school district?

You could ask your agent but they are not supposed to give their opinion on the school. What they can do is what I do and that is direct you to an online site that lets you find out that information for yourself. It’s called greatschools.org.

It’s very easy to use. Just type in the school you are wanting to know more about and it will give you a rating of that school, detailed information about it and sometimes even some reviews of the school.
